MPP John Jordan Reflects on 2024 and Prepares for a Busy Year Ahead
January 23, 2025
MPP John Jordan recently reflected on his second full year of representing the riding of Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston.
“There were many positive accomplishments, including increases in base funding to all our hospitals within our riding, operating funds for the new MRI in Smiths Falls and capital funding for the new Emergency Department in Carleton Place.”
“The expansion of the Ottawa Valley Family Health Team in Carleton Place, a new Family Health Team in Perth, new long-term care homes in Carleton Place and Almonte and the expansion of Broadview Nursing Home in Smiths Falls will go a long way to ensure people have the care where and when they need it.”
“We’ve seen additions in affordable housing, with another project completed in Smiths Falls. Diversifying and growing local economies with funds invested in festivals, events, trails, Seniors Active Living Centres in areas including North Lanark and Montague and other recreational facilities have promoted active living and increased tourism to our communities.”
“A continued focus on housing has seen infrastructure funding provided to rehabilitate and build roads in Mississippi Mills and expand the water and sewer capacity in Carleton Place.”
“And targeted funding to beef and dairy farms, grain operators, syrup producers and agri-food production management throughout the riding continues to strengthen the agri-food sector and fuel economic growth. Reliable and responsive food supply has also been a focus, including a funding increase of more than 50% to the Feeder Cattle Loan Guarantee Program.”
MPP Jordan will continue to focus on the healthcare system, affordable housing, infrastructure and growing the local economy in 2025.
“I also look forward to the continued positive relationships with our municipal leaders and supporting their goals through Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA), Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) and the Eastern Ontario Wardens’ Caucus (EOWC).”
With the recent announcement of the pending closure of Algonquin College, Perth Campus, MPP Jordan reiterated that he will continue to engage in discussions with President and CEO, Claude Brule, as well as provincial ministers, including Nolan Quinn, Minister of Colleges and Universities and Lisa Thompson, Minister of Rural Affairs.
“There are important opportunities for niche-based learning that could take advantage of the tools and skill sets already in place. I am optimistic that if we continue to work together to focus on meeting the unique needs of a specialized market, we can find a sustainable path forward, despite the current setbacks.”
MPP Jordan says there is more work to be done and the provincial government is ready to assist rural communities with new and improved programs, like the recently announced Home Renovation Rebate, which will offer all Ontarians up to 30% for home energy efficiency renovations and improvements, the expanded and re-branded Rural Ontario Development Program, which just doubled its annual funding to support economic growth, workforce capacity and business development in rural communities, as well as increased funding for 100 new Seniors Active Living Centres – a program that the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston riding has been very successful in securing.
“We must continue to have all levels of government working together to make our communities the best places to live, work and do business, while expanding services and programs that have a real impact on the lives of the people and families in Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston,” said MPP Jordan.
