MPP Jordan – MRI Ground-Breaking Event at the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital

June 30, 2023

A very special event took place at the Smiths Falls site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital on Friday, June 23rd.

MPP John Jordan joined Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Steve Clark, hospital CEO Michael Cohen, hospital foundation CEO, Margot Hallam, foundation Chair, Kristine Fair, as well as local dignitaries, hospital and foundation staff and volunteers and residents, for the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation’s ground-breaking ceremony at the site of a brand new MRI machine.

“Thanks to the dedication of the Hospital Foundation, the unwavering support of the local community and Health Minister Sylvia Jones, construction is well underway and patients will be using the MRI by October”, said MPP John Jordan, Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston. “This technology will help to reduce wait times in the region, and minimize patient and family travel. The Ontario government continues to lead the way with investments in healthcare.”

In December 2022, the Province announced that it was working to improve access to diagnostic imaging services and reduce wait times, by investing over $20 million in operating funding for 27 new MRI machines, including the Smiths Falls site of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.

MRI services will continue to bring care closer to home, reducing undue stress for patients and their families, as well as assisting in the recruitment and retention of physicians and other healthcare professionals.

The new MRI machine will perform approximately 3,100 scans per year.
