January 27, 2025
CARLETON PLACE — The Ontario government is celebrating the completion of Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital’s new and expanded emergency department. The province has invested $18.2 million to support the development of this project, connecting more people living in Carleton Place and surrounding areas to convenient emergency care, closer to home.
“This significant investment will connect more people to the care they need, when they need it,” said MPP John Jordan, Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston. “This is a critical step toward improving healthcare access for patients in Carleton Place and surrounding communities in our riding. Ensuring our hospitals and community health facilities have the infrastructure in place to deliver the high-quality care patients expect and deserve is a priority for our government and I will continue to advocate for more development at the Carleton Place and District Memorial hospital.”
Through this development, approximately 11,600 square feet of space was added to build a brand new, emergency department at Mississippi River Health Alliance’s Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital. This new, state-of-the-art facility will increase the hospital’s ability to treat and care for more people requiring emergency care, ensuring they have fast and convenient access to the services they need in their community, for years to come.
“Our government is making record investments in hospital infrastructure to expand access to world-class care in communities across the province,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “We are excited to celebrate the completion of this new emergency department at Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital, ensuring families in Carleton Place and across the Ottawa region can connect to high-quality emergency care, where and when they need it, for decades to come.”
Renovations include:
- Five additional emergency treatment spaces, bringing the total number of treatment spaces to 11, including specialized rooms for trauma, mental health and pediatric care
- Improved patient flow for both walk-in patients and patients arriving by ambulance
- Barrier-free entrances for patients and ambulances, including a complete new ambulance bay, making it easier and faster to enter the emergency department
- Enhanced infection prevention and control measures
- A private room for families to meet and gather
- An additional parking lot to accommodate increased number of patients and their families
Through Your Health: A Plan For Connected and Convenient Care, Ontario is expanding and modernizing hospitals, making it easier and faster for people of all ages to connect to the care they need, closer to home.
