Redeveloped home brings 128 modern long-term care beds to the community

SMITHS FALLS — The Ontario government is celebrating the opening of the new Broadview Nursing Home, which is adding 128 modern long-term care beds to the community. This project is a recipient of the provincial construction funding subsidy top-up and is part of the government’s plan to protect Ontario by creating good jobs and building for the future, while ensuring long-term care residents get the quality of care and quality of life they need and deserve.
“Our government is investing over $236 billion in our plan to build hospitals, long-term care, roads, schools and other critical infrastructure so we can create good-paying jobs, protect workers and connect families to the high-quality care that they deserve,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Today’s announcement means 128 residents in Smiths Falls and eastern Ontario will have access to a world-class long-term care home for decades to come.”
The redeveloped Broadview Nursing Home supports 128 modern beds and is designed into four “resident home areas” that each create a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents with their own dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms. The home includes a multi-purpose room, a multi-faith room, a café, a hair salon, and three secure courtyards that include wandering paths, garden planters and family-friendly components.
“The opening of the new Broadview Nursing Home marks another major milestone in our government’s plan to protect residents and increase access to world-class health care across the province,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, Minister of Long-Term Care. “The new home will bring accessible quality of care to the Smiths Falls community, and with construction now complete, 128 residents will have a safe and modern place to call home.”
The new home will support approximately 170 ongoing, local jobs for the surrounding community, including positions in nursing, personal support work, nutrition services, programming and administration. In addition, construction of the home generated approximately 210 local jobs.
This project is part of the Ontario government’s continued progress toward its commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province, as outlined in the 2026 Ontario Budget: A Plan to Protect Ontario. The plan to improve long-term care is built on four pillars: staffing and care; quality and enforcement; building modern, safe and comfortable homes; and connecting seniors with faster, more convenient access to the services they need.

- As of April 2026, 165 long-term care projects representing a total of 26,421 new and redeveloped beds are completed, under construction or have ministry approval to start construction across the province.
- The redeveloped Broadview Nursing Home replaces the former Broadview Nursing Centre in Smiths Falls as well as the Hilltop Manor Nursing Home in Merrickville with a modern, one-storey home that welcomed its first residents in December 2025.
- The government is continuing its ambitious and extensive long-term care construction campaign with the 2025 Long-Term Care Home Capital Funding Policy and Capital Funding Program (CFP). The CFP provides a funding framework that better reflects regional cost variations while addressing diverse operator needs within the long-term care sector.
- The CFP replaced the construction funding subsidy (CFS) and the time-limited CFS top-up that were introduced in 2022 and resulted in the largest construction of long-term care projects the government has achieved in a single year.
