The Ontario government is providing 8 non-profit organizations with $357,500 in funding this year through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Seed grant stream. The funding will help provide residents with better access to the critical programs, services, activities and spaces that make Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston a great place to live, work and play.
“Our government believes local non-profit organizations enrich lives and play an important role in building a strong community and prosperous economy. That is why our government is proud to support these program and service providers through OTF’s Seed grants,” said John Jordan, MPP for Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston. “Organizations such as the Carleton Place Youth Centre and the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario in Smiths Falls are pillars of our community. This support will enable them to deliver essential programming and make a positive difference for years to come.”
OTF’s Seed grants help organizations build resilience and enhance their ability to deliver programs and services that directly benefit community members. Grantees can use their funding to support organizational planning, pilot a new program and/or build their organizational capacity to plan for future programs and services.
Organizations receiving funding include:
• Carleton Place Youth Centre – it will use a $20,000 Seed grant over 12 months to launch a multi-week skill-building program designed to empower youth aged 16-21 through financial literacy, career preparation and practical independent living skills
• Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario – it will use a $32,300 Seed grant over 12 months to create an accessible, inclusive, bilingual virtual museum tour that preserves and shares the stories of the community’s railway past
And 6 organizations in Kingston that serve residents in Frontenac County – Victim Services of Kingston and Frontenac, KEYS Job Centre, Modern Fuel Artist Run Centre, Ryandale Transition House, Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning and Kingston School of Art and Window Art Gallery – received Seed grants totalling $305,200
Sharon Ruth, Executive Director of the Carleton Place Youth Centre, was very grateful to be receiving this provincial funding.
“FutureLaunch is a skill-building program designed to empower youth aged 16–21 in Carleton Place with the tools they need to transition successfully into adulthood. This program is being created in direct response to feedback from youth and local service providers who identified a need for targeted support for older youth. While younger age groups are often served through recreational and after-school programs, older youth are frequently overlooked—despite facing significant life decisions around education, employment, and independence.”
“This support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation and MPP John Jordan means so much to us. It gives the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario an incredible opportunity to bring new life to our exhibits, ensure accessibility for all visitors, and preserve the stories that define our community’s past. We are grateful for this investment in our museum and community’s future!” — Becky Allen, Executive Director, Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario
The Ontario government has invested more than $792 million in over 7,300 projects since 2018. These investments have created more than 9,490 full time jobs and generated over $1.1 billion in economic benefits for communities across the province.
“In Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston and all across Ontario, non-profit organizations are delivering critical programs that empowers people to learn new skills, pursue rewarding careers and build meaningful connections with their community,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “With this funding, Ontario is protecting and supporting communities, while helping to ensure these non-profits can strengthen their foundations and prepare for the future, so they can continue meeting the evolving needs of Ontarians now and for years to come.”
