Planet Youth Lanark County hosting a Goal Setting Workshop

May 18, 2023

The following is a news release from Planet Youth Lanark County about an upcoming workshop on June 1st. Read all the details below:

On Thursday, June 1, Planet Youth Lanark County is hosting a Community Goal Setting Workshop in Carleton Place to create goals and prevention strategies based on a 2022 Planet Youth Lanark County survey of grade 10 students.

The meeting has been designed for youth, parents, school staff, youth leaders, community organizations, municipal staff & councillors ….. all Lanark County residents who want to help create an action plan. An expert (with 20+ years of experience) in using Planet Youth surveys to develop effective community action plans will lead the workshop. Working together we can make our community a healthier place to grow up.

The meeting will take place at 9:00-11:00am at the Zion United Memorial Church in Carleton Place.

We look forward to a lively discussion so we encourage you to join us in person if possible. A zoom link will be available if you want to attend online.

Prevention is possible!

WHAT IS PLANET YOUTH? Planet Youth is a prevention model designed and proven to reduce or delay substance use among youth. It was pioneered in Iceland over 20 years ago — since then the youth substance use rate there has gone from Europe’s worst to best. The community-based Planet Youth Lanark County steering committee was formed in 2017 to bring the method to Canada. The committee receives financial, governance and strategic oversight from Open Doors for Lanark Children and Youth.  Key collaborators who have worked to bring this evidence-based approach to Lanark County and the Town of Smiths Falls include the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit; representatives from both English language school boards and community volunteers from across Lanark County.
